Dear friends of the UDHR,
September was a rewarding month for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Indeed, the UDHR has continued to develop its partnerships, and has also gained visibility during an important international event.
The international network of Maisons de la
Francophonie, among the partners of the DDHU.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights has joined the Réseau International des Maisons des Francophonies (RIMF) as a non-governmental organization. This network is composed of four major geographical areas: Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas. This new partnership will be a great opportunity to develop the HRDu internationally. We warmly thank the RIMF for its involvement in the Declaration.
Participation of the DDHu in the IUCN Committee in
From September 3 to 11, the World Conservation Congress was held in Marseille, organized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). It was the largest global event ever organized on biodiversity. Strong decisions were adopted and several organizations and experts of the IUCN Committee were able to call for mobilization on various topics such as: threatened species, protected areas or biodiversity in the French overseas territories.
This event was also an opportunity for the DDHU. Indeed, Corinne Lepage, President of the DDHu, was able to present the latter at the colloquium organized in parallel by the Chair of the University for Peace of Normandy, alongside Professor Robinson. She recalled that the Declaration is a “text particularly adapted to the particularly difficult times we are living in”. Indeed, it is the only text adopted today that recognizes: “the right to live in a healthy environment, ecologically sustainable for humanity and for living species is an explicit recognition of the rights of nature; this right is more than ever indispensable and can only be matched by the obligation to allow the exercise of this right”.
The DDHu was well received by several of the partners of this Congress.
In addition, during an IUCN plenary, the president of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), Mohamed Boudra, called on all members of the audience to support the UDHR.
